Guide School and Training in Indiana

In Indiana, our research showed the below requirements to become a hunting guide or fishing guide.  Before operating as a guide ensure that you contact your states wildlife agency directly to verify all requirements.

*Always ensure that you and your clients have the necessary hunting and fishing licenses for the game you will be pursuing.

Basic requirements for Fishing Guide Jobs in Indiana:

  • A fishing guide license is required by the Indiana DNR to take individuals sport fishing for hire on public waters.  The license costs $100 a year, and there are monthly reporting requirements. There are no schooling or training requirements for the fishing guide license.  If you will be taking individuals out fishing on a boat, you must also have your boat inspected by a conservation officer and be in compliance with certain laws for passenger-for-hire.

  • Driver’s License
  • Good communication skills
  • Well organized
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of clients
  • Willingness to teach others effective fishing techniques
  • Outdoor survival and first aid skills
  • Swimming skills
  • Good physical fitness

Basic requirements for Hunting Guide Jobs in Indiana:

  • The Indiana DNR does not require a hunting guide license to take individuals out hunting. You must simply comply with the hunting laws and have the appropriate hunting license if you be assisting them in taking the wild animal.
